HISTORY
The idea of the Board of Veterans Cricket in India was seeded in 1988 at New Delhi by Late Shri Chetan Chauhan.
Initial matches of BVCI were played as state tournaments with Delhi Directorate Veteran Association, UP Veteran Cricket Association, and Chennai Veteran Cricket Association. A year later, two more associations joined hands with BVCI, Kerala and Karnataka. Whilst Bombay, Goa and Hyderabad joined hands with BVCI in 1998.
BVCI and the zonal bodies played internal matches among these associations, which paved the way for All India Nationals. The idea for running this association was to engage cricket enthusiasts above 40 to come and play cricket on an international stage. More importantly, engage the retired professionals in a much more productive yet engaging sport, getting them out of the rut of their perfunctory daily life. With particular emphasis on sports by the Government of India, BVCI aims to make it to the mainstream media and get the audience it deserves.
